Headwaters Hike – Willowemoc Creek

Join me and Will Soter from Upstate Adventure Guides as we bring you on a guided tour of one of America’s legendary trout streams, the Willowemoc. This back-country hike calls on Will’s intimate knowledge of the land to provide a safe and efficient route to the place where a trickle turns to the flow that we know as the Willowemoc – tributary to the famed Beaverkill and headwaters of the Delaware River. Will’s knowledge of the history and lore of this region will help paint a picture of why these waters are so revered. We’ll discuss how history connects us to the water (and the role that trout play in that history) in a manner that puts our love and respect for these treasures in much a greater context. The aim is to inspire a profound understanding and connection to the preciousness of mountain headwaters in the very valley considered to be a cornerstone of American fly fishing.

Post hike we will retire to The Club Room at The Debruce for Esopus Creel’s Angler’s Night: food, trout fare, drinks, and more tales of fly fishing the legendary waters of the Catskills.

The hike is approximately 2 miles of off trail hiking, with roughly 300′ of elevation change, on moderate terrain. With late winter conditions lingering in the Catskills, hikers should prepare for both mud, and snow. Participants will be sent a detailed prep list upon registration. For specific questions about the trip, contact Will Soter: (845)-399-9948, or WillSoter@upstateadventureguides.com
