First, we’d like to thank everyone for their continued support through these trying times & wish everyone the very best as we try to navigate very unknown waters for us all. Anxieties are high, so remember that we are all trying our best. Please approach every person and situation with compassion, understanding, and the simple thought… “How can I help.”
The shop is currently closed and will remain so until we fine tune a curbside pickup situation. We’ll be increasing our online offerings, so please order there and we’ll get orders shipped or coordinate pick-up or delivery as soon as we can.
No wade trips are scheduled until May. Our general rule, every year, is that we don’t start guiding until May 15. While we’re confident that fly fishing lends itself to keeping safe distances while in the great outdoors, there is still an issue of gear safety. In response to the fact that we tend to guide and educate a very high percentage of first-time anglers, we will be offering discounts on waders and fly rod outfits so that guide clients can feel safer about not sharing gear. Esopus Creel does not currently offer float trips, and though it’s still legal in New York, boat/drift/float trips have been suspended in most recreational states.
All previously announced Esopus Creel events have been cancelled. Please stay tuned for re-scheduling.
Again, we’d like to thank everyone who has supported us through these tough times. What we do for a living – taking people out into nature, an act which by all accounts is perfectly safe – is a blessing and a passion for us. We’re anxious to get back out there. And looking forward to doing so as soon as possible. Cheers and tight lines to all this season.
Fly Fishing in the Catskill Mountains
Welcome to The Catskills, the birthplace of American fly fishing! Our full-service fly shop offers sales and gear rentals. Owners Todd Spire & Paul Schiavo are both New York State licensed fishing guides and offer fly fishing instruction and guided trips on the Esopus Creek and surrounding waters. We also host dinners and informal gatherings to help connect our communities through a shared love of food, fishing, and the fabled waters of the Catskill Mountains. Join us in the middle of the river where you’ll experience the grace and skills of one of man’s oldest sports. Along the way you’ll learn how aspects of geology, history, and ecology have come together to form these fabled fisheries.
